3월 2일 - Recommendation Algorithms in Our Daily Lives

1. grab someone's interest : ~의 관심을 끌다
   Once, I saw a video that grabbed my interst on YouTube.

2. put something in one's shopping cart : 장바구니에 넣다
   I put it in my shopping cart, but I haven't decided whether to buy it.

3. have one's head on straight : 사리분별을 하다, 합리적으로 행동하다
   I'm not a fool, and I have my head on straight.
   This is an important presentation, so be sure to have your head on straight.

   - right under one's nose : 바로 앞에서, 알게 모르게

     Recommendation algorithms are being used, sometimes right under your nose.

   - at work : 작동중인

   - come in handy : 유용하다, 도움이 되다

   - act passively : 수동적으로 행동하다

   - a slave to algorithms : 알고리즘의 노예

 

   ★ I remember how helpful it was.


3월 3일 - Abandoned Dogs and Cats

1. from someone's perspective : ~의 입장에서
   I understand that it could seem unreasonable from your perspective.

2. do what someone can : 나름의 최선을 다하다
   The doctors are doing what they can, so now we have to wait.

3. rummage through : ~을 뒤지다
   I rummaged through my closet, but I coludn't find the shirt.

   - be cast aside : 버려지다

     Abandoned dogs and cats are adopted pets that are later cast aside.

   - companion animal : 반려동물

   - make one's way to : ~에 이르게 되다

   - animal shelter : 동물 보호소

   - put to sleep : 안락사시키다

   - get someone down : ~를 속상하게 하다

   - be prejudiced : 편견을 갖다

   - do a lot of harm : 큰 해를 입히다

     Some people are prejudiced, and think that these stray animals can do a lot of harm.

   -regularly feed : 주기적으로 먹이를 주다


3월 4일 - Individual Investors in the Stock Market

1. take a direct hit : 직격탄을 맞다
   Many self-employed people took a direct hit from COVID-19.

2. set a new record : 신기록을 세우다, 기록을 갈아치우다
   Many stock indices around the world set a new record.

3. gung-ho : 매우 의욕적인, 매우 적극적인
   Many individual investors were gung-ho about buying up stocks.

   - take a toll on : ~에 타격을 입히다

   - take a nosedive : 폭락하다, 곤두박질치다

   - bounce back : 반등하다

   - a new term was coined : 신조어가 만들어졌다

     A new term was coined to refer to these investors : "Donghak Ants".

   - be likened to : ~에 빗대어지다

   - spur on : 부추기다, 격려하다

   - take out a loan : 대출을 받다

   - capital guarantee : 원금 보장

 

   ★ This upward trend of the stock market was mainly driven by a large number of new individual investors.

     - upward trend : 상승 추세

     - be driven by : ~로부터 원동력을 얻다


3월 5일 - EBS 오디오 어학당

1. one-stop : 통합된 (서비스, 매장 등)
   I wish someone would develop a one-stop app for online banking.

2. to one's heart's content : 마음껏, 원하는 만큼
   When I am alone in my car, I sing to my heart's content.

3. monthly subscription : 월 구독, 월정액 상품
   I use that service quite often, so I just purchased a monthly subscription.

   - sign up for : ~에 가입하다

   - sync an account : 계정을 동기화하다

   - give something a go : ~을 시도해 보다
